They say we are what we eat, which is undoubtedly true when it comes to having luscious, glowing skin.

Of course, the right products used regularly will also help, but mindfully eating for glow should be your number one priority.

Still Sassy’s resident professional makeup artist and skincare wizard, David Horne, shares his advice for achieving a glow that comes from within.

Our skin shows a clear indicator of our inner health, and the best habit to foster to ensure yours glows is to pick foods which offer antioxidants and vitamins and are not processed.

Eat the rainbow is the message here!

The rainbow colours of plants come from the different phytonutrient antioxidants they contain, so eating fruits and vegetables in a wide range of colours ensures you are enjoying a vast array of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. My tip is to do your food shop by colour so the process is always achieved and not a chore.
If you buy nutritious food this is what your skin health will reflect – fact.

Here is a guide to help you shop with purpose:

Red – Tomato, red bell pepper, pomegranate, which is rich in lycopene

Orange – Bell pepper, carrot, squash

Yellow – Bell pepper, sweetcorn

Green – Bell pepper, celery, cucumber, olive, gherkin, capers

Blue – Blueberries, blackberries

Purple – Beetroot stalks, beetroot, red cabbage

Once home, prep and chop all your rainbow fresh fruit and veg , and for ease, store in your fridge in glass jars by rainbow colour order. Build your rainbow! Food stored this way will stay fresh for 1-2 weeks, and the benefit of glass jars is that they won’t leach toxins into the food. Plastic can harbour bacteria remember.

Ready for action? Try this – honey and pomegranate GLOW spread on sourdough toast.

Mix some loose pomegranate seeds and Manuka honey into a paste and spread on warm sough dough toast for a glowing snack! David also uses ginger-infused honey for extra flavour. Buy it HERE

This recipe works because:

  • Honey has innumerable benefits for the skin, and the best one to use is Manuka, which is a form of pure, raw honey and has a fantastic effect on the skin. Honey has anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It repairs damaged skin and makes it look super healthy and glowy
  • Free radicals cause premature ageing and pomegranates fight against them as they are jam-packed with antioxidants
  • Pomegranates also contain Ellagic Acid, which helps fight against wrinkles. It works great on acne-prone skin too
  • It is incredible for skin rejuvenation because it is full of Vitamins like vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. It is also rich in a micronutrient called zinc which has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
