Julie Brown
Accredited Life coach and journalist

Like many women my age I’ve been lucky enough to experience two very different and rewarding careers, one in healthcare and one in journalism before going down the self-employed route five years ago.   At that point I turned to  coaching, which is a dream career and for a while I owned a sewing shop as well – I cherished this for two years before selling it. I still combine freelance journalism with coaching. I’ve raised a family too (my beautiful, all grown up son) and can look back on a whole load of things that make me feel very satisfied and immensely happy.

Like many women my age I’ve been lucky enough to experience two very different and rewarding careers in healthcare and journalism before going down the self-employed route. For a while I owned a shop, which I cherished for two years before selling it and then I turned to  coaching, which is a dream career. I’ve raised a family too (my beautiful, all grown up son) and can look back on a whole load of things that make me very happy.

But equally, as time ticked away, I went through a phase where I lost confidence, questioned what comes next and did an awful lot of soul-searching to come out the other side with some kind of plan to help get me through it. Maybe you’ve experienced this too or are experiencing it right now.

This was what led me to launch Still Sassy – a chance to encourage others in the same boat to support each other by sharing experiences and inspiration on how to make the second half of our time on this planet a chance to build on everything we learned in the first one.

Still Sassy is your community. Get involved and together we can navigate our way through midlife and beyond.

The story of Still Sassy

Our hero – you – has spent the last 30 years building a career, raising a family, furiously acquiring practical, emotional and project management skills (you might call this work and children) and occasionally still being a sassy siren too.

And then it changes. The cherubs fly the nest and life feels very different. For the first time in years you look up, breathe out and wonder what comes next.

Given some luck and a healthy lifestyle you might have as long left as you’ve lived so far. It’s an opportunity, not a crisis. Now is the time to take stock of who you are, all you’ve achieved, the skills you’ve assembled and make a plan for what comes next.

Still Sassy is here to help. A friendly space to explore ideas on how to move forward and upwards. This isn’t (or doesn’t have to be) about career, it’s about taking a moment to pause, reflect and choose a new direction. Goodbye Mumsnet, hello Minxnet.

Still Sassy is a community for women that celebrates the reality of being no longer judged on how you look, how many GCSEs your kids have or anything superficial.

This is your age. You’ve seen and enjoyed the first wave of life, are smarter, sassier and less fickle than before. No longer a slave to convention or playground/workplace expectations, this is your time to show the world who you really are.

‘Wow, count me in. But first I need to check; Who am I exactly?’

Still Sassy will help you answer that question. We’ll talk (a lot) about how we got here and how to celebrate the women we’ve become. But mostly we’ll be looking forward. There’ll be a lot about mindset and how to grow yours, lots about health, beauty, skincare and styling and we’ll share the knowledge and experience of those who inspire us.

Because Still Sassy is not a one-minx-wonder. Our crazily-ambitious goal is to have a community of women chatting among themselves; sharing questions and answers, advice and experience.

So it’s a mixture of articles, audio and video from us, plus our favourite content from you (and her). We do the hard work finding the best stuff so that you won’t have to.
