In the January 2023 issue Red magazine published its yearly Red Beauty Awards and I was very happy to get my hands on a copy.
I’m not going to talk about them all here. Instead, I am showcasing the six products I am currently using or have used, and added 10 others from the list, which I haven’t yet got my hands on. But it’s on my to-do list!

Enjoy!

The six products I’ve tried – they are all very lovely

1. Best suits-all serum – Beauty Pie Youth Bomb 360 Face Lift Serum, £185 (members’ price £44)

What Red says:
Every ingredient in this gorgeous serum boosts skin’s ability to reflect light. One Red editor is on her third bottle and probably won’t stop there. I’m about to order my third too! ➡️

3. Best concealer – Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer, £25

What Red says:
Creamy, buildable coverage yet with a bare skin-like finish that makes light weight of concealing anything from dark circles to pigmentation and blemishes. ➡️

5. Best for face and body – Cerave Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser, £12.50

What Red says:
Formulated for normal to very dry skin, this gentle foaming wash leaves your face and body nicely hydrated. ➡️

2. Best vitamin C – L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Clinical 12% Pure Vitamin C Serum, £29.99

What Red says:
All the skin-brightening and protective antioxidant benefits of vitamin C without the stinging. A shot of salicylic acid helps to refine pores too.

4. Best base – Nars Light Reflecting Foundation, £39

What Red says:
In a year of great bases, we’re returned to this weightless foundation again and again. It slides easily over skin, leaving it looking fresh and bright.

6 Best eye pencil – Glossier No. 1 Eyeliner, £14

What Red says:
Buttery textures that glide on, blend beautifully, then last and last – even in the waterline.

10 of the rest

2. Best problem solvers – The Inkey List Supersolutions, from £15.99

What Red says:
Each designed to tackle a specific skin care challenge – rough skin, scarring redness or excess oil – these formulations bridge the gap between high-street beauty and the dermatologist’s office all at a brilliant price. ➡️

4. Best for menopause – No7 Menopause Skincare, from £14.99

What Red Says:
Boots took a deep-dive into midlife skin, and with the input of more than 7000 menopausal women, found thoughtful solutions to menopause-related dryness dullness and blemishes. ➡️

6. Best blushers – Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush, £18

What Red says:
One of the smartest textures to come from a beauty brand this year: creamy, saturated colour that hugs skin with a powder-soft finish. ➡️

8. Best nail care – Evolve Timeless Renewel Cuticle Oil, £14

What Red says:
Even the best nail oil needs regular applications to make a difference. This uplifting citrus and ylang-ylang rollerball makes that job a cinch. ➡️

10. Best self-tan – James Read Tan Click and Glow Body, £40

What Red says:
A few of these tan drops added to body lotion and applied several times a week gives skin an expensive-looking honeyed sheen. ➡️

1. Best base with SPF – Ultra Violette Daydream Screen SPF 50 Tinted Veil, £38

What Red says:
The brand calls its tinted moisturiser a secondary ‘sunscreen’ to be worn over your regular UV protection. We call it perfection.

3. Best eye cream – M&S Formula Sleep and Replenish Anti-fatigue Eye Cream, £17.50

What Red Says:
Dark under-eye shadows are lightened and brightened thanks to an active ingredient that breaks down the build-up of the yellow-to-brown pigment of bilirubin.

5. Best skin finisher – Jones Road Miracle Balm, £36

What Red says:
This universally flattering balm, which comes in a range of shades, operates as a skin tint, glow giver and highlighter all in one.

7. Best eye colour – RMS Beauty Eyelights Cream Eyeshadow, £25

What Red says:
Pleasingly versatile cream shadows that can be sheered out to create a subtle daytime twinkle or built up for a party-ready eye.

9. Best hydrator – Oskia Universal Hyaluronic Acid, £62

What Red says:
This bumper bottle of hyaluronic acid and rosewater serum is high-performing enough for the face but big enough for the body. It’s useful and it’s gorgeous.
