The lovely Dr Ejikeme, founder and medical director of the Adonia Medical Clinic looked into her crystal ball recently to (try to) predict what’s going to be trending in 2023.

Here’s her top 11.

1. Skinminimalism. Stripping back skincare routines and makeup application as much as possible and not using needless products but only the bare minimum for the most effect. Quality over quantity using multifunctional and rich products.

2. Bio-hacking is also going to be a trend in 2023 and using supplementation to do this, such as NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) to upcycle and upregulate NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) to make the body function even more effectively. If you didn’t know, biohacking is also known as DIY biology, a concept that has become popular – especially with people who are making a deliberate effort to look after their health.

3. They’ll be a focus on barrier repair and hydration and less aggressive skincare like over-exfoliation.4. Skincare-makeup hybrids will be popular – which is makeup with skin care ingredients. The focus is on skincare, always working to improve the quality of skin even whilst wearing makeup. We are already seeing this with SPF in makeup, lip oils instead of lip gloss etc.

5. DIY beauty will be a trend – at home beauty treatments and facials have increased and will continue to do so.

6. The use of skincare devices will continue to increase. These devices are an at-home alternative to procedures performed in a dermatologist’s clinic or spa. This is becoming more popular as it saves time and money.

7. Cryotherapy (cold therapy), which is the local or general use of cold temperatures will also be embraced. It benefits the skin’s appearance by increasing blood flow and enhancing cell regeneration.

8. Sheet masks are trending. These offer instant hydration, decrease inflammation etc. so you can  enjoy the same benefits of an in-office facial without the cost.

9. Electrolytes will be used in more skincare. These minerals (such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium) help  to maintain the balance of the moisture on the skin.

10. Bodycare is the new skincare. There will be a focus on and a spike in bodycare. Products that are more related to skincare in bodycare are already on the rise.

11. The microbiome and products suited to the microbiome will trend as there are links between gut health and our skin.
